Personal Development & Enrichment

As part of your child’s education at Engage Academy, we place a strong emphasis on personal wellbeing, development and enrichment. This is delivered through our comprehensive Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) programme and our whole‑school wellbeing approach, myHappymind.

Enrichment is a core priority at Engage Academy and is fully embedded within the curriculum and wider school life, rather than treated as an add‑on. Through a rich range of planned experiences, we support pupils’ Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development and ensure that British Values are actively promoted and lived every day.

Our PSHE, myHappymind and enrichment programmes help pupils to understand themselves and others, manage emotions, build resilience and develop positive relationships. These experiences also support pupils to explore key British Values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.

Enrichment opportunities are carefully planned across five key areas:

  • Civic engagement and leadership – including School Council, Junior Dukes, charity fundraising, community projects and local environmental work, promoting democracy, responsibility and active citizenship
  • Arts and culture – such as music therapy, Rocksteady, theatre visits and museum trips, supporting cultural understanding, creativity and self‑expression
  • Outdoor learning and adventure – including Forest School, residentials, gardening and sustainability projects, promoting teamwork, resilience and respect for the environment
  • Sport and physical activity – including swimming, boxing, structured games, reward clubs and competitive sport, encouraging healthy lifestyles, fairness and teamwork
  • Wider life skills – including cooking, enterprise projects, debating, STEM activities and careers learning, supporting independence, aspiration and preparation for adult life

All PSHE, myHappymind and enrichment learning takes place in a safe, supportive environment and is thoughtfully adapted to meet pupils’:

  • Age
  • Physical and emotional maturity
  • Religious and cultural backgrounds
  • Special educational needs and disabilities

As part of the PSHE curriculum, pupils also receive Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE). This is delivered sensitively and appropriately, with a strong emphasis on safety, respect, healthy relationships and personal wellbeing.

Our PSHE, SMSC, British Values and enrichment provision is regularly monitored and reviewed. For further details please contact school or see the document links below.

We are committed to working in partnership with parents and carers and welcome your views as we continue to develop our provision. Please look out for opportunities to share your feedback through parent surveys
