Curriculum

At Engage Academy, the curriculum is designed to provide a holistic, inclusive and ambitious education that extends beyond academic achievement to develop the whole child. Enrichment is an integral component of our curriculum, ensuring that all pupils access a broad range of meaningful experiences that build confidence, resilience, and essential life skills.

We offer a bespoke curriculum that secures coverage of the National Curriculum while being carefully adapted to meet the individual Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) and learning needs of every pupil. Our approach ensures that learning is high-quality, stimulating, diverse, and relevant, enabling pupils to engage positively, achieve well, and retain knowledge in their long-term memory. This strong foundation supports pupils to maximise their life chances beyond their time in school.

Enrichment is woven throughout our curriculum and is structured around the key areas of civic engagement, arts and culture, nature and outdoor learning, sport, and life skills. A particular emphasis is placed on personal development, with explicit teaching and application of communication, resilience, teamwork, independence, and problem-solving skills. These are embedded across all areas of learning, ensuring pupils are well-prepared for the next stage of their education and for life in modern society.

Many subjects are delivered through thematic, innovative, and personalised approaches, allowing pupils to make meaningful connections in their learning and remain fully engaged. Enrichment opportunities such as outdoor learning, creative experiences, and community-based activities further enhance this by providing real-world contexts that deepen understanding and promote a sense of belonging.

All learning and enrichment activities are carefully planned, adapted, and supported to ensure equitable access and full participation. Our nurturing ethos, underpinned by the six principles of nurture, ensures that pupils feel safe, valued, and ready to learn. This is led and supported by skilled and experienced staff who understand and respond to the complex needs of our learners.

Through this integrated approach, our curriculum enables pupils to:

  • Develop secure knowledge and skills across all subjects
  • Build confidence, resilience, and independence
  • Improve social, emotional, and mental wellbeing
  • Gain practical life skills for the future

Ultimately, our curriculum is designed to ensure that every pupil leaves with the knowledge, skills, and personal development needed to thrive, succeed and contribute positively to their community.
