Creative Curriculum

Many subject areas at Engage Academy are taught through a thematic and creative curriculum, designed to engage pupils through meaningful, personalised learning that reflects individual interests and needs. Where appropriate, learning is supported through continuous provision, allowing pupils to explore and practise skills in a practical, engaging way.

Enrichment is embedded within this approach and helps bring learning to life. We have developed our outdoor provision to include a forest area and outdoor classroom, which are used regularly to support curriculum learning, wellbeing and teamwork. Some pupils also benefit from continuous access to a smaller outdoor space as part of play‑based learning, with activities linked to current topics.

Our long‑term curriculum planning is organised into four stages: Early Years, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each stage covers six topics per year on a two‑year cycle, ensuring breadth and progression. Examples of long‑term planning can be found on the Curriculum page of our website.

Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development and British Values are embedded throughout the curriculum and wider school life, including collective worship, PSHE, Citizenship and enrichment activities. Opportunities are further enriched through community links and external visitors, alongside Religious Education taught in line with the Kirklees agreed syllabus.

Further information about our SMSC provision, British Values and enrichment offer can be found in the Personal Development section.
